LARRY MEHAU (FOUNDER)

Hawaii Protective Association (HPA) was founded by Mr. Larry Mehau, a former Big Island police officer, in the late 1970s. Mehau was a well-known figure in Hawaii's business and security communities, often referred to as one of the originators of professional "Hawaiian" security. Under his leadership, HPA grew to become one of the state's most prominent security firms, offering services ranging from personal protection to commercial and residential security. Mehau’s deep connections within Hawaii’s political and business circles played a key role in the company's success.

After decades of steady growth and a strong reputation for reliability and local expertise, the business eventually transitioned to new ownership. In recent years, Mr. Brett Arizumi, also a former Honolulu police officer, Hawaii-based entrepreneur and business leader, acquired HPA. Arizumi brought a fresh perspective to the company, focusing on modernizing operations while maintaining the strong values and community ties established by Mehau. Today, under Arizumi's leadership, HPA continues to provide top-tier security services across the islands, staying true to its origins while adapting to modern challenges as well as perpetuating a truly Hawaii corporation, locally owned and operated company.

This transition marks a new chapter for HPA, ensuring that the company remains a trusted name in Hawaii’s security industry for many years to come.

HPA has helped us accomplish our security goals for have given us the utmost piece of mind for over 20 years. For anything security we always contact HPA.
